For the past few weeks, we have fixed the compost, harvested the last of our collards, taken the area and perimeter of the garden, and made new collard observations. We had to find a solution for our compost bin outside because it had a bad smell. It had a bad smell because of bad bacteria, so we fixed it by stirring it (adding oxygen), and by adding more brown stuff to help the decaying material decompose. Now our compost is healthy again!
We also noticed that our collards are not growing fast because we did not plant them during the right season. Even though collards are tolerant to cold, temperatures have been below freezing. The collards are still alive, but they are small and do not have a healthy color.
Now we are finding the area and perimeter of the garden, so we can plan our spring crops. Right now, we are researching what crops do well in Georgia in the springtime. We also will research how to plant them and how to take care of them.
