In the past several weeks, we have researched, planted, and observed our organic garden. This week, we are patiently waiting for the pepper plant seeds to sprout. As soon as they sprout, we will transfer them into the garden.
We are also collecting plant seeds, so we can learn the different types of fruits and vegetables. If your child finds a seed that he/she would like to add to our seed book, they can bring it in and show the class. The class will be writing details about each seed, so they can learn how to plant and grow a variety of crops.
What's coming up?
- Math: We are continuing to learn about fractions. Students will also have a math fact quiz this Friday. 10-15 minutes of practice each day is great practice.
-Reading: We are learning to write a variety of poetry. The first poem we tried was the Acrostic poem. Students described gardening and composting within the poem.
-Writing: Students are learning how to write with persuasion. They are doing a wonderful job writing a persuasive essay on why schools benefit and should have a garden. We are also writing our observations of our organic gardening experiences in the science journals. They may bring these home if you would like to see!
-Spelling: No spelling for the next couple of weeks as we work with using a variety of sentences in our writing. We will just be reviewing the spelling principals already learned.
-Science: We are using science in a variety of subjects and will continue to be going to the garden a lot as the weather warms up. Bringing old shoes for the garden is a good idea to bring to school. I have a pair for myself here as well.
***Don't forget field day shirt money is due as soon as possible!
***Also, if you would like to purchase a yearbook, please send money this week.
-Social Studies: We are continuing to learn about famous historic people. We have also started to learn about economics.
